Sunday 31 December - Top goalscorers at the end of December

Those of you who have seen the Bath City matchday programme will have seen a Stat Attack article on the quickest players to 20 goals since we joined the Isthmian League - Niko Muir being the fourth quickest behind David Hyde, Iain Dowie and Gerry O'Rourke.

However, Niko Muir is now our second highest goalscorer at the end of the December, since we joined the Isthmian League in 1963, after his hat-trick at Harlow yesterday afternoon. His 29 goals is beaten only by David Hyde, who was on 38 goals by the end of December 1964 (he went on to score 59). Iain Dowie had left the club by the end of December 1988 having scored 25 goals, whilst Gerry O'Rourke was on 24 goals at the end of December 1963, the same total as Paul Whitmarsh in 1998 and Jefferson Louis in 2013. Niko also became the eighth player to hit 40 goals under Gary McCann.

On a slightly different subject, yesterday was the first time in 8 league games that the player wearing number 4 failed to score!

As soon as we know the result of the appeal, we will let you know.

Saturday 30 December - Micky Janes

It is with sadness that we have learnt this evening of the passing of former Hendon manager Micky Janes.

Micky first joined the club in the 1985/86 season as assistant manager to Ted Hardy, before being promoted to manager in the September 1987 following Hardy's departure.

Micky's spell as manager included the Middlesex Charity Cup win at Wembley Stadium, and a run to the second round of the FA Trophy which included a 2-0 win at Fareham Town which led to a trip to Barrow where the Greens lost 2-1. Iain Dowie was top scorer with 27 goals in Micky's first season as manager. Another legend in Micky's squad was the recently departed Dermot Drummy. The highlight of the 1988-89 season was an FA Cup first round tie at Reading, where the home side ran out 4-2 winners, and Micky left the club after the 1989-90 season.

Our deepest sympathies go to Micky's family at this sad time.

Saturday 30 December - Niko is the hat-trick hero again

Niko Muir scored his third hat-trick of the season as the first team ran out 3-0 winners at Harlow Town to take his personal tally to 29 goals for the campaign.

With Folkestone, who also won, the only other team in the top six in action this afternoon due to postponements, the victory made the spot in the play-offs more secure for the time being as the Greens remained in third place, nine points behind the leading pair, and five points clear of sixth placed Leiston, safe in the knowledge that if teams win their games in hand they can't be overtaken.

The first half was a goalless affair, with Kezie Ibe being kept quiet by the ever strong Hendon back line, whilst at the other end, chances were created but not taken.

However, the opening goal came in the 51st minute after Ashley Nathaniel-George was fouled in the box, and Muir stepped up to score the spot kick. Just three minutes later Muir doubled the lead with a fine shot on the turn. The final goal came in the 89th minute when a defensive mix-up allowed Muir to slide the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick.

The win was soured slightly by the late sending-off of Casey Maclaren, but all the focus will be on Muir's exploits in front of goal as we move into 2018.

Tuesday 26 December - First team complete Harrow double

The first team completed the seasonal league double over Harrow Borough with a 4-0 win at Earlsmead this afternoon, meaning they have scored 10 goals without reply against the Boro in the league this season.

The first half was largely uneventful until the 38 minute when Josh Walker fired the ball at goal. The ball took a deflection and was touched into his own net by Chinua Cole, but the decision has been made to award Walker with the goal.

The Greens took the game by the scruff of the net in the second half, and doubled the lead in the 48th minute when Dave Diedhiou found the back of the net, and Josh Walker scored his second of the afternoon in the 62nd minute.

The final goal came in the 83rd minute when Josh Walker went on a mazy run into the box, which left Cole chasing shadows and ultimately bringing Walker down. Niko Muir stepped up to confidently convert the spot kick and score his 20th league goal of the season, and his 26th in total.

The result moves the Greens up to 3rd place in the table as they head into the two New Year games against Harlow Town and Wingate & Finchley.

Saturday 23 December - Greens give supporters early Christmas present

The first team gave the supporters an early Christmas present as they beat Brightlingsea Regent 4-2, in a game that contained a number of excellent goals.

The scoring was opened in the 10th minute when Keagan Cole finished clinically, but shortly before the half hour mark Brightlingsea equalised with a superb strike from their leading scorer Billy Hunt that gave Tom Lovelock no chance.

The visitors had the better of the exchanges in the second half, but they fell behind when Dave Diedhiou latched on to a pass behind the defence and he carried the ball forward to slip it past the oncoming Harry Palmer. Just two minutes later the Greens were further ahead with what was probably the best goal of the game.

Niko Muir had the ball with opposition players around him, but he left them standing to break into the box and fire a stunning strike into the roof of the net from an acute angle.

As the game moved into stoppage time, Josh Walker extended the lead further, only for Billy Hunt to score a second for the visitors with the final kick of the game.

The win means that the Greens go into Christmas in 5th place with 41 points from 22 games, having scored 50 league goals.

Next up is the short trip to Harrow Borough on Boxing Day - kick off at 1:00pm

Thursday 21 December - Kezie Ibe moves on

Gary McCann has been in touch with the website team in the past few minutes to confirm that Kezie Ibe has left the club this evening, and is expected to sign for Harlow Town in time to play this weekend.

Kezie has been a key member of the squad since he signed from Basingstoke Town in the summer of 2014, since when he has made 172 appearances, scoring 47 goals. However, this season he has been kept out of the starting line-up due to the form of the likes of Niko Muir and Zak Joseph, and having turned 35 last week, needs to be playing regular football.

Gary said "I am saddened that the time has come for Kezie to move on, but it is the right time from a footballing perspective. Kezie needs to be playing regularly and we are unable to offer him that at the current time.

"He is one of the nicest people you could hope to meet, and he has served both myself and Hendon Football Club fantastically over the past three and a half years.

"Kezie goes with our good wishes, and with huge thanks for all his efforts during his time with us."

The first team picked up all three points at Dorking Wanderers this evening, despite being reduced to ten men with nearly half an hour left in the game.

The red card, which saw Harly Wise dismissed, came in the 64th minute but just ten minutes later the Greens were further ahead when Isaac Philpott put the ball into his own net.

The result moves the Greens back into the play off zone - with two games in hand on Staines and Leiston who both have four more points. At the top, Billericay replaced Dulwich Hamlet following their 3-0 win over Metropolitan Police.

Saturday 16 December - Hendon see off Roman challenge

The first team progressed to the last 32 of the FA Trophy for the first time in 15 years thanks to a thoroughly professional 2-1 win over Bath City, who sit mid-table in the Vanarama South Division.

The result also means that the Greens maintain their 100% record against the Romans, having beaten them twice in the FA Cup in the late 1990's - the only other two times the clubs have met.

The visitors probably edged most of the first half, but were unable to find the net, and it was the Greens who scored first when Arthur Lee turned the ball into the net following a free kick.

Bath hit back within a couple of minutes of the second half beginning when Tom Smith found the back of the net, but Hendon were in determined mood and gradually caused their opponents more and more problems. In the 73rd minute Keagan Cole was introduced to the action, and within a minute he had scored by firing the loose ball home after a throw-in.

It must be said that the Greens' game management to see the game out was superb and they kept Bath's chances of an equaliser to a premium with Tom Lovelock hardly tested in the closing stages and progression to the last 32 was secured.

Tuesday 12 December - Dan's the penalty hero again

Just a fortnight after his heroics at Slough Town in the FA Trophy, Dan Purdue was the hero again as he saved the crucial penalty in another shootout - this time against Hanwell Town. The first team won 6-5 on penalties after the scores were level at 3-3 in tonight's London Senior Cup tie.

The first half belonged to the Greens as a quickfire double from Zak Joseph, the second a fine free kick, and they went in at the break 2-0 ahead.

However, within 17 minutes of the restart Hanwell Town were ahead as the Greens disappeared from view. First of all Mergin Quarri scored a superb long-distance strike, before Nick Turner headed home a corner and Sam Pekun then put the visitors ahead.

However, the introduction of Dave Diedhiou and Niko Muir spurred the home side back into action and the equaliser came 9 minutes from time when pressure from Kezie Ibe forced Calum Duffy to turn the ball into his own net.

And so it came to penalties. Hendon went first and Harly Wise, Kezie Ibe, Ashley Nathaniel-George, Daniel Uchechi and Niko Muir all scored, whilst Peter Dean, Joe Chandiram, Calum Duffy, Mergin Quarri and Charlie Mitchell were all on target for Hanwell. Dave Diedhiou was then successful and it was left to Dan Purdue to be the hero as he saved Alfie Cain's penalty to ensure progression into the quarter finals where a home tie against Balham awaits.

Sunday 10 December - Correction to Margate match details

Your website team has just been informed - 12 hours after the game - that the scorer of our first goal at Margate yesterday was in fact Ashley Nathaniel-George and not Josh Walker.

Unfortunately none of our club officials who were at the game - all of whom knew that the web team were unable to be at Margate - felt it necessary to ensure that we had fully accurate information to put on the website. Therefore, the only information we had available to us when updating the website late last night was what was on the FootballWebPages livescores service, which, as we are sure most people will be aware, is updated by the home club for each match.

We apologise that last night's update wasn't up to our usual standard in terms of accuracy. Hopefully our club officials will realise that their web team are not psychic and are not able to know when opposition clubs make mistakes in the live updates!

Saturday 02 December - More milestones as Thurrock beaten

Two goalscoring milestones were reached this afternoon as the first team ran out 4-1 winners over Thurrock at a chilly SJP this afternoon.

The first milestone came in the 18th minute when Casey Maclaren scored his 50th goal for the club, his effort being deflected past Jake Jessup in goal, and just four minutes later the second milestone came as Dave Diedhiou scored his 40th goal for the club, his effort also being deflected past the keeper. In the 25th minute the Greens were 3-0 up as Niko Muir found the back of the net.

The rest of the game saw the Greens in control of proceedings and chances for the visitors were kept to a minimum. However, they did have a lifeline just before half time when they were awarded a penalty which was converted by Ronnie Winn.

The only goal of the second half came on the hour mark when Josh Walker was fouled in the box, and Muir stepped up to score his 23rd goal of the season.

The three points mean that the Greens have moved back into the play off zone, now lying in 5th place.
