Tuesday 31 January - Middlesex cup dream over

The dream of regaining the Middlesex Senior Cup is over for another year after the Greens lost 2-1 at Northwood after extra time. The home side took the lead in the 19th minute through Peter Dean, before the Greens equalised shortly after the hour mark courtesy of a Gary Meakin own goal. With the scores still level at full time, it took a headed effort by Alistair Heselton from a free kick to win the game. Northwood were forced to play the last 25 minutes with Dave Nolan in goal after their regular keeper Liam Watson had to leave the field with an injury. Hendon's extra time performance was summed up by the fact that Nolan didn't have a save to make.

Friday 27 January - Frendo to move on

48 hours after John Frendo's return from loan, the club received an official approach from Ware FC asking for John to return to Wodson Park on a permanent basis. Gary McCann informed John of this, and following a series of discussions it appeared that John would be remaining at Claremont Road.

A few days later the club received another approach, this time from Broxbourne Borough FC and despite more lengthy discussions and every effort by Gary to keep John at Hendon FC he has decided to move on.

However, John has confirmed that he will fulfill his commitment to Hendon by making himself available for selection against Northwood in our important cup tie on Tuesday evening.

Regretfully, we are resigned to losing John and thank him for all his efforts in the past. We wish him every success for the future and we hope that he will mark his final game for us with a few of his trademark goals.

Tuesday 24 January - Defences on top in goalless draw

On a very cold, frosty evening, Hendon and East Thurrock United played out a goalless draw. It was a game where both defences were on top, and neither keeper really had a clear cut save to make. The best chances for the Greens fell to John Frendo and Bradley Bubb, but their shots didn't trouble the East Thurrock keeper.

Saturday 21 January - Early goal enough for Swifts

A Sean Marks goal in the fourth minute turned out to be enough for Heybridge Swifts to return to Essex this afternoon with all three points. Heybridge were well in control throughout the first half with Hendon's best chance falling to John Frendo whose shot flew over the bar. In the second half the Greens battled hard with John Frendo seeing a rebound cleared off the line, and deep into injury time, Dave King, having gone forward for a free kick, saw his header also cleared off the line. Heybridge also had chances, but King was in fine form in his normal role as goalkeeper.

Friday 20 January - Hunter's stay was a short one

Jermaine Hunter has been released by the club today after just two games for the Greens and has signed for Braintree Town. Gary McCann said that there was no way the club could stand in the way of Jermaine moving on as he was offered a package that we were unable to match. Jermaine goes with our very best wishes, and the club are very grateful for his efforts in his two games, especially against Fisher, where he was very professional with his performance despite knowing that it was likely to be his last game for the club.

Tuesday 17 January - Frendo on fire for Greens

John Frendo returned from his loan spell at Ware in style as he hit four goals in Hendon's 7-0 victory over Redbridge, the clubs biggest win since September 1997 when Staines Town were beaten 8-1 in the League Cup. The result puts the Greens in the semi finals of the London Senior Cup where they will entertain Tooting & Mitcham United on a date to be announced.

The Greens took the lead in the 36th minute through Frendo, who went on to complete a hat-trick before half-time. One sour note in the first half saw the departure of James Parker to hospital with a suspected broken foot. Dave Hunt added to the scoreline in the 72nd minute, before Blaise O'Brien made it five in the 81st minute. Two minutes before the end of normal time Frendo scored his fourth, before Hunt fired home the final goal deep into stoppage time.

Monday 16 January - Youth team round up

It was a mixed weekend for our two Sunday youth teams. The under 15's came back from a goal down to trounce Pinner Albion B 7-1 with Will Mabbutt, Emmanuel Ofosu and Matt Hornblow all scoring two goals each. Meanwhile, in an outstanding top of the table clash, the under 13's slipped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Pinnstars B, Nasser Elmi taking his tally for the season to 30 as he scored both goals.

Saturday 14 January - Hendon Cook the Fish

Hendon put in one of their best performances of the season this afternoon as they ran out 1-0 winners at Fisher Athletic. In a real team performance, the decisive goal came in the 66th minute when Andy Cook was sent clear of the home defence by Jermaine Hunter, and he slid the ball past the keeper into the net. Fisher's best chance came ten minutes later but the shot hit the post and was cleared to safety. Dave King made two or three excellent saves to help keep the clean sheet and there was no doubt that the Greens were deserved winners at the final whistle.

Saturday 07 January - Braintree let out of jail

Hendon threw away three points this afternoon as they lost 2-1 to Braintree Town. The Greens took the lead in the 17th minute through a Blaise O'Brien free kick and had really worked hard throughout the game to keep hold of the lead with Sean Thomas making two or three top quality saves. However, it all went wrong in the 85th minute when Sean Thomas made an excellent parried save from Bradley Quinton but could only watch in horror as the ball looped into the net. The winning goal came three minutes into stoppage time when Thomas failed to claim the ball when coming out of his goal leaving the goal wide open for Quinton to head home.

Monday 02 January - Disappointing start to year for Greens

It was a disappointing start to 2006 this afternoon as Hendon were beaten 3-0 by Wealdstone. Richard Jolly gave Wealdstone the lead in the 5th minute after he latched onto a long ball from midfield, and while Hendon had chances to equalise they were unable to find the back of the net. The Stones doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when Andy Cook pulled down a Wealdstone player inside the penalty area and Jermaine Beckford cooly fired the spot kick home. The third goal came four minutes from the end when Gary Burrell slammed home a rebound. The result means that the Greens have now lost four league games in a row and the team will be keen to put things right next Saturday against Braintree.
