Golders Green, at home to Tufnell Park, did everything but score in their Senior Amateur League [later renamed to Herts & Middlesex League] match. While every credit must be given to Cornell, the Park goalie, the losers contributed to their own undoing through their old lack of forceful methods. The inside forwards were the chief offenders, Fontana and Cochrane holding the ball for too long.

Several changes had to be made in the teams. F. Boston and J. McCauley will not be available for a few weeks owing to business calls, but the Green's old player, Ralph Ward, now in the services, was on leave, and was able to step into the breach at left back. A round of applause greeted Ward when he took the field, for it was his first appearance since joining up, and Saturday was the eve of his wedding day.

Ellison played at right half with conspicuous success, and there was a pleasing absence of " pattern weaving " from him, except on one occasion, which he paid for with a slight injury. Breagan was in the unaccustomed position of left half, and again showed what a versatile performer he is. He did excellently.

In the Park's side W. Pidgeon was lent, and turned out at left back.

Roberts scored the only goal of the match, in the first half, a long shot from 20 yards out completely beating Hart. Pulling netted what appeared to be a good equaliser from a centre by Stroud, but after allowing it, the referee consulted a linesman and reversed his decision. Pulling and Stroud were the pick of the home forwards.

Though the Green pressed strongly for the whole of the second half, they could not pierce the Park's defence.

In the absence of one linesman, the secretary of each club did the " line " for one half of the game.
