Hendon won the SJP Community Cup with a comfortable 4–1 defeat of a Hitchin Town squad at Silver Jubilee Park on Sunday afternoon.
The weather on Sunday was much warmer and muggier than the previous day, though it was mainly cloudy and the pace of the game was less than that of the semi-final. Hitchin's squad was not as strong as it had been with only two starters and most the substitutes from the previous day’s near first-team line-up.
Hendon's squad also contained a few less first-teamers than the day before, but they were quick to take control. Trialist central defender Andrew Iwediuno gave the Greens lead around the quarter-hour mark, but, a minute later, a defensive slip gave the Canaries the chance to draw level.
Just before the half-hour, a superb flowing move was superbly finished by another player looking for a place on the squad, Josh Walker. It gave Hendon a lead they would not relinquish.
The usual practice of multiple changes in the second half made the game rather more disjointed, but a third trialist took the opportunity to show off his skills. First, in the 71st minute, courtesy of a perfect free kick from Daniel Uchechi which was floated into the top corner.
Then, just before the final whistle, Uchechi, who – along with goalkeeper Montel Joseph, Sam Murphy, Rian Bray and Dave Diedhiou played the full 90 minutes (the latter trio all registered for the new season) – was on hand to score the fourth shortly before the final whistle.
