Golders Green entertaiined Barnet in a friendly match on Good Friday and won by 6-3. In the return game at Barnet on Easter Monday the score was two all.
In the first half there was not much to choose between the teams and at the interval Golders Green just about deserved their lead by 3-2. Drinkwater's play was a feature of this half, his expert manipulation of the ball pleasing the crowd immensely. From one of his passes Golders Green should have taken an early lead, but this failure was soon redeemed following a scrimmage in the goalmouth. A few minutes later Barnet had a narrow escape. Lumb slipped and fell, but his body fortunately prevented the ball from passing over the line. Before half-time Barnet had scored twice and Golders Green also scored two more goals. One of the visitors' goals came from Marchant. Godding came out to meet him, but the Barnet player neatly put the ball over his head. Goalkeepers were handicapped by the condition of the ground.
In the second half Fallon added to Golders Green's score by means of a penalty kick. Barnet continued to give the home club a hard game, but could only score once, while Golders Green added two more goals, giving them the victory by 6-3.
The scorers were Browne (2), Fallon (2), Drinkwater and Russell for Golders Green, and Marchant (2) and Richardson for Barnet.
