Barking visited the Avenue Ground on Saturday in the Premier Division, London League, and in view of dangerous state of the playing pitch a game without injuries to either side and a draw 1-1 furnished, under the circumstances, a satisfactory reward to both players and spectators, the former being fairly excused for not taking any risks. Hampstead had by far the better chances throughout, but their re-arranged forward line did not operate so successfully as the usual combination. The game opened sensationally, as, almost from the kick-off the Town were fairly awarded a penalty kick for palpable “hands” in the danger zone, W. H. Hooper, as usual, converting. It was not until late in the second half that Barking equalized through their right winger, whose shot glanced into the net off an upright well out the reach of Matthews. The defences of both teams prevailed, Barking being exceptionally well served by their right back, Bradley, who was a tower of strength, while Bracken was safe in goal. On the Town side Matthews again proved his worth as a custodian, while E. J. Wright equalled his display of the previous week at centre half and satisfied the Town that they have an exceedingly valuable addition to their ranks.
