Hampstead Town, in an exciting game, and certainly the best seen at the Avenue ground, Child's Hill, this season, defeated Botwell Mission by 4 goals to 3 in the second round of the F.A. Amateur Cup. The visitors gave a remarkably sound and clever display throughout, and led at the interval by 2 goals to 1, their points resulting from good efforts by F. Long and C. Knight, W. Little registering the first goal of the match for Hampstead with a fine shot.
Shortly after resuming, W. Bush equalised for the Town from a free kick near goal, and later, to the disappointment of the home supporters, D.R. Bullough missed a penalty. Botwell, playing up strongly, looked like winning when F. Long scored again for them, but valiant efforts by the home side resulted in two good goals in the last ten minutes of the match, E.J. Wright and D.R. Bullough doing the needful.
Great interest prevailed throughout the game, and the final and winning goal provoked a great burst of enthusiasm from the large crowd present. Outstanding players on the Hampstead side were H.H. Allwright at left-back, and J.H. Parker at right-half. J. Gore played a grand game for the visitors at right-back.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Winsor and Eton F.C. will be entertained at the Avenue ground in the second round of the English Cup. The kick-off is timed for 2.45, the early start being arranged by the F.A. in case extra time should have to be played. Few, if any, changes will be made in Hampstead's winning combination.
