Barnet visited and defeated Hampstead [Town] in an Athenian League game last Saturday by 2 goals to 1, a result which fairly represented the run of the play, the Barnet team being the faster and better balanced combination. An attendance of considerably over 1,000 local enthusiasts testified to the great revival of interest in amateur sport. The Child's Hill Silver Prize Band made a welcome re-appearance and contributed to the harmony of the proceedings.
Hampstead, who were unable to field their strongest eleven owing to minor injuries, opened in promising style, T.B. Poltock scoring a fine goal from a pass by C.W. Hayes soon after the start. Barnet equalised before the interval with a well-judged effort by F.G. Denton at inside-right, and W. Kidd contributed the winning goal midway in the second period. Throughout the game the Barnet forwards were most prominent, and H.J. Dale played brilliantly in the Hampstead goal.
With plenty of the right talent available and a determination to field a representative eleven worthy [of] the club's traditions, some important changes will be made in the Hampstead team to face Chelmsford in the Athenian League next Saturday at the Avenue ground, Child's Hill.
