In the Athenian League encounter between Hampstead Town and Summerstown, which resulted in a draw 4-4, the honours were with the visitors who, despite being three goals down, played so well and so pluckily in the concluding stages of a stern game that they forced a division of the points.
C. Wise opened the account with a fine shot from Clifford's centre, the latter proving a commendable introduction from the reserve eleven. S. Briscoe later ensured for Hampstead a two goals' lead at the interval, and when F.L. Burrage scored a third soon after resuming, a win for the home side appeared certain.
Summerstown, however, settled down in determined fashion, and W.J. Smart scored a couple of excellent goals. Notwithstanding a futher setback when S. Briscoe again netted, the visitors, with fine spurts, put on two more through F.C. Gathercole, and came within an ace of securing full points.
With the opening of the second half of the season drastic changes are likely to be made in the Hampstead eleven to remedy obvious weaknesses, particularly in the middle line and wing forward positions. The club has some fine new talent available amongst local players and interesting experiments will be made to improve the team.
For the Boxing Day encounter at the Avenue Ground, Child's-hill (kick-off 2.30) with Luton Clarence, the present champions of the Athenian League, Hampstead will introduct the two Middlesex County players - Lieut. Dickson, of the R.A.F., at centre-half, and C. Wilson at outside-left, and a close and interesting match is anticipated.
The Hampstead eleven will be selected from:- P.E. Bruty, H. Baxter, S. Dunstone, W. Brewer, J. Parker, Lieut. Dickson, R.H. Barratt, H. Woodward, A.E. Mallett, F.L. Burrage, J. Soper, C. Wise, G. Wilson.
