Before a record holiday crowd at the Avenue Ground, Child's Hill, on Boxing Day, Hampstead Town, in the Athenian League, defeated Luton Clarence, last year's champions, by threee goals to two. The introduction of the two Middlesex County players, Lieut. C. Dickson at centre half, and A.C. Wilson at outside left, greatly strengthened the Hampstead team, and they crossed over with a two goals' lead from excellent finishing touches to good all-round play by A.E. Mallett and F.L. Burrage. H. Lane netted for Luton soon after resuming, and later Lieut. Dickson accidentally scored for them in endeavouring to head away. C. Wise, however, made victory certain for Hampstead, who are now more favourably placed in the league table.
Tomorrow (Saturday) at the Child's Hill enclosure, a "local Derby" will be provided in the visit of Hyde and Kingsbury. A stern encounter is bound to ensue, and Hampstead will have on trial two or three new local aspirants to football fame.
As a result of recent announcements in these columns over fifty applicants have been received by the club from promising local players.
