Hampstead Town visited and decisively defeated St Albans City by two goals to one, thus winning the divisional final of the F.A. Cup for the second year in succession. By a superlative display against a remarkably good side, the Hampstead team fully justified their high reputation, and in the opinion of the City's supporters furnished the best football ever seen at Clarence Park. This was the first time in their history that the two clubs had come into opposition, and the fine defensive work of the Hampstead halves and backs, notably W. Brewer, S. Dunstone, and H.G. Baxter, completely spoilt the efforts of the City's front rank.
The eleventh-hour decision to play their crack centre-forward and versatile footballer, G.F. Blackburn, at centre-half proved an important factor in Hampstead's success, for he made a most admirable pivot and conspicuous defender, the latter role being his special duty on this occasion.
Llew Price was an efficient substitute as leader of the attack, and, in addition to opening the game well, he gave C. Mold in the City's goal many anxious moments, and his brilliant play alone spelt defeat for the home side. It was left to C. Wise, however, to score on each occasion for Hampstead, and his general display was worthy of the honour bestowed upon him of inclusion in the English team for the Amateur International match with Ireland on November 13. St Albans were dangerous only on rare occasions, although they made a big effort to save the game, and exerted tremendous pressure in the last ten minutes. Paul struck the cross-bar with a terrific shot, and P.E. Bruty, in endeavouring to clear the ball, turned it into his own net. Over 800 supporters accompanied the Hampstead team, and the gate of around 3,500 was a record for the ground.
Today [Saturday 13 November] Limehouse Town will be entertained at the Avenue ground in the Middlesex Senior Cup, kick-off 3 o'clock. One of Hampstead's best and most popular players of recent seasons, R.H. Barratt, will make his reappearance in this match. He has been playing big football in the Midlands, but has now returned to reside in the district. Hampstead will select from:- P.E. Bruty, H.G. Baxter, S. Dunstone, W. Brewer, R.H. Barratt, G.A. Reeves, H. Woodward, A.E. Mallett, F.L. Burrage, G.F. Blackburn, S. Briscoe, and Llew Price.
