Hampstead Town won their way to the divisional final of the F.A. Cup by defeating Fricker's Athletic Club, a big Luton works team, by five goals to one. This victory brings Hampstead and St Albans City in opposition in the next round, the latter club having removed Barnet from the competition. A huge crowd at the Child's Hill enclosure were treated to a fine exhibition of football, and although the score was somewhat flattering to Hampstead, their win was richly desrved, and brings their record in the competition to date to 19 goals against 1. The visitors were always dangerous, and with a little more speed in their front line might have levelled the score, but Hampstead deservedly obtained a two goals' lead at half-time through excellent efforts by C. Wise and G.F. Blackburn.
Soon after resuming J. Baines scored for Fricker's, but this reverse only stimulated the Hampstead forwards to greater things, and F.L. Burrage notched a beautiful third. Constant pressure on their opponents, with tense moments in front of goal, resulted in the award of a penalty kick, and although G.F. Blackburn failed with this, he quickly made amends with a brilliant individual effort resulting in Hampstead's fourth. Close on the call of time C. Wise scored again. J. Clark and G. Taylor played a fine defensive game for the visitors, who were a well-balanced side. P.E. Bruty, on trial in goal for Hampstead, made quite a good show, the defence being greatly strengthened by the return of H.G. Baxter; and S.P. Briscoe operated to advantage on the left wing.
With Hyde and Kingsbury failing to beat Polytechnic, the latter club will have to visit Hampstead in the next round of the London Senior Cup. Hampstead will also shortly entertain at home Limehouse Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup, and Wealdstone will also visit the Avenue ground in the Middlesex Charity Cup.
Hampstead's London League side were defeated in their away match with Cray Wanderers by 3 goals to 2.
GREAT HONOUR FOR HAMPSTEAD TOWN PLAYER
C. Wise, Hampstead Town's clever inside left, who has been playing so well this season in Athenian League and Cup games, has been selected for the Amateur International, England v. Ireland, at Belfast on November 13.
