Match Report

Hampstead Town entertained Bromley at Child's Hill, on Saturday, in the Athenian League, the visitors winning a hard-fought game by four goals to two. Bromley's methods throughout the match were of an extremely vigorous character, and the close and robust attention paid to the Hampstead front line, notably L.P. Price and G.F. Blackburn, effectually spoilt many fine efforts. Bromley netted first through Osborne, but subsequently G.F. Blackburn got through twice for Hampstead, who led at the interval. Weakness in defence caused Hampstead to lose this important League encounter, Mockford, of Bromley, being given three easy chances, of which he took full advantage.

With the early return of H.G. Baxter, the Town's fine full back who has been selected for County honours, and who has been temporarily out of the team with a slight injury, an improvement in defence can be confidently anticipated. It is noteworthy that the whole of the Hampstead forwards have now been selected for representative County games. L.P. Price and C. Wise recently played for London against Surrey, G.F. Blackburn and F.L. Burrage helped Middlesex to defeat Norfolk at Yarmouth, and A.E. Mallett has again been selected for the Herts team. Six current County players in one eleven constitutes practically a record, and lends added interest to the doings of the Hampstead club. L.P. Price is likely to secure a Welsh Amateur International cap.
