The enterprise of Hampstead Town in providing improved accommodation for their numerous supporters and friends was rewarded on Saturday with the attendance of a record crowd, who saw the home team defeat Luton Amateurs in the F.A. Cup by six goals to nil. Hampstead's score in this competition for the current season now stands at fourteen goals to none.
Their forwards played excellent football throughout, and the display of the three inside men in particular - G.F. Blackburn, F.L. Burrage and C Wise - fully justified their selection by the County authorities to represent Middlesex v. Norfolk at Yarmouth yesterday. The visitors, who had disposed of Enfield in the previous round, were never permitted to become dangerous, and Hampstead's superiority was displayed by three goals scored in each half.
C. Wise found the net first, heading a fine goal from a centre by A.E. Mallett, the popular captain of the club. G.F. Blackburn, whose general play is attracting considerable attention and may secure for him the highest honours in amateur circles, scored thrice, F.L. Burrage and S. Briscoe being responsible for the other goals. Luton's outstanding player was their goalkeeper, who had a strenuous afternoon.
Hampstead were not at full strength in this match, H.G. Baxter being out of the team temporarily with a slight injury incurred in the Uxbridge game. With a little stiffening in defence, which will be achieved during the next few weeks, Hampstead have the prospect of fielding a particularly fine eleven, whose merits will be subjected to a severe test tomorrow, when Bromley visit Child's-hill in the Athenian League. Kick off 3.30.
