After three seasons of League and Cup encounters Hampstead [Town] have yet to suffer defeat by the Kingstonians. Recently the two teams effected a goalless draw on the Hampstead ground in one of the finest matches seen there, and a very big crowd assembled for the return match. A new and commodious covered stand, of a type above that of the average amateur club, has recently been erected on the Kingstonian ground, and this was packed to its fullest capacity. The somewhat confident hope of the homesters for a victory they sadly need, and fully deserve, in the Athenian League was doomed to disappointment, however, for Hampstead were good value for their 1-0 win. Both goalkeepers had plenty to do, C.B. Evans making many fine saves, and the game was fast and exciting throughout. Hampstead's winning goal was scored twenty minutes after the start, S. Howard netting from a perfect centre by H.S. White.
R. Kirby was again absent from centre-forward: he has been seriously ill, but is now recovering, and will shortly reappear in the Hampstead colours. It is fortunate that Travers Day has proved such a promising deputy, and he again played well in this game.
History is repeating itself in regard to the Athenian League championship, for, as was the case last season at this period, it appears to be a triangular contest between Hampstead, Metrogas, and St. Albans.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Cheshunt visit the Child's Hill ground in the semi-final of the Middlesex Charity Cup. Kick off 3.30.
