Hampstead Town's encounter with Kingstonians in the Athenian League proved another of the enjoyable games usually resulting from the meeting of these two aspiring clubs, and a big crowd witnessed a clean and sporting contest with honours easy. Although no goals were registered, keen interest was sustained throughout, the play being fast and exciting. For three-parts of the opening half Hampstead had the ball hovering about the visitors' goal, which, however, bore a charmed existence. After the interval play was more even, and both goalkeepers made fine saves, C.B. Evans excelling himself on one or two occasions.
Hampstead were without R. Kirby, who was away ill, and S. Briscoe, travelling. A.G. Cox deputised for the former, but did not have the best of luck with his efforts. A. Hankins, at outside right, did not impress in the early stages, but made good later, and justified his trial with the team.
Lewis Smith gave another sparkling display at centre-half, being good both in defence and attack, and no mistake has been made in encouraging this promising player. W.E. Brewer played his sixty-fourth consecutive game for Hampstead at right-half - a gratifying record, both for himself and his side.
For the visitors R.W.S. Blaber was particuklarly prominent at left back, and L.F. Marlow made many fine attempts to score.
