Hampstead [Town] experienced a welcome change of fortune in their Athenian League match with Sutton United, which they won somewhat easily by three goals to one. This was Hampstead's first home appearance in five weeks, and they were welcomed back to form by their usual substantial following.
C. Wise captained the side again after an absence of several weeks through illness, and his deft touches and good generalship made all the difference to the Hampstead front line, which was most effective, R. Kirby scoring from two good openings before the interval, and S. Briscoe adding a grand goal immediately after.
Sutton played pluckily, but the Hampstead defence withstood all attacks until just before the close, when R. Pragnell got a good goal for the visitors.
