Although Hampstead Town secured an easy victory over Sutton Court in the London Senior Cup [third qualifying round] by the big margin of eight goals to none, their opponents were no quite so ineffective as the score appears to indicate. The visitors, a noted sporting side, put up an excellent fight, and were cheerful losers, and the fact that C.B. Evans, in the Hampstead goal, was frequently called upon to save good scoring efforts shows that the attack was not one-sided.
The game opened sensationally, with R. Kirby scoring direct from the kick-off, and within fifteen minutes Hampstead were three up, with further good goals by S. Howard and R. Kirby. The former and H.S. White increased the lead before the interval. Three more goals accrued to the Town before the final whistle, S. Briscoe (two), and C. Wise scoring.
S. Howard retired five minutes before the conclusion with what appeared at first to be a serious injury to his spine as a result of a heavy collision. A visit to the hospital with X-ray treatment proved, however, that no bones were broken, and he is making good progress. Hampstead now have two of their prominent players hors de combat, as H. Woodward will be confined to his bed for some weeks with a somewhat serious injury to his knee, sustained the previous Saturday.
Hampstead were fortunate to have an excellent left half available in Leslie G. Vance, who proved a good deputy. He has represented London and Middlesex on no fewer than sixteen occasions, and although somewhat on the heavy side and not so fast as of yore, should prove a valuable asset to the team.
Owing to Summerstown replayed tie the home Athenian League fixture with them has been postponed, and instead Summerstown "A" team will visit Child's Hill ground in the London League. The Athenian League team will visit Bromley in that competition.
