Being unable to fix up an Athenian League match for Saturday, Hampstead were fortunate in arranging a friendly with Finchley, who figure in the London League.
Hampstead played their usual team, with the exception of Wardlaw, who was injured, Bishop taking his place. In the first half Finchley scored twice. The first goal came from a scramble in front of the net, Stannard beating Smith, who touched the ball but was unable to save it, and the other came through Brocklebank with a first-time shot. In this case Smith punched the ball against the upright and it rebounded into the net. Hampstead's goal came from a penalty for handling, Smy taking the place kick.
During the second half Hampstead made several attacks on the Finchley goal, but were unable to penetrate the strong defence, although at times the Finchley men showed rather unfair tactics in saving their goal; and several cautions were issued and free kicks taken by Hampstead. The final whistle came with Finchley leading by two goals to one.
