On [Easter] Monday Hampstead entertained Old Boltonians, a team on tour in London from Lancashire. The game was started without S.R. Smith, their goal-keeper, who was late in arriving. Owens went in goal, and whilst Smith was going across the field to take up his position his understudy was defeated by A.C. Fogg. This success put life into the Boltonians, who still held the lead at the interval.
After half-time, however, Hampstead got the upper hand, and following pressure on the right, Neil equalised with a first-time drive from a centre by Reinke. This was quickly followed by another by Wilson, who, following up, headed a neat goal. From a breakaway by Boltonians, Jones, with only Smith to beat, had a wonderful chance to score, but he shot wide. Hampstead were then awarded a penalty for hands, and Moody scored from the spot kick, placing the ball well out of the goal-keeper's reach.
Moody was the outstanding player on the field, whilst Wilson, who was making his debut with the first team [but see match report for 14 Jan 1928], showed promise. For Old Boltonians, N. Woods was prominent at centre-half.
