Playing a team which included some of the Reserves, Hampstead, on Friday afternoon, gained a 4-1 win over Barnet, who were playing their Reserve eleven in this game, although it can be seen that several of the team at one time were in Barnet's regular first team.
Winning the toss, Hampstead were aggressive early, but were unable to penetrate Barnet's defence. After a period of attacking by both sides, Barnet scored, Jones netting from a centre by Deeks. Unruffled by this reverse, Hampstead soon returned to the attack, and just on half-time Rowe, who had been putting across some fine centres, was left unmarked, and he netted with a cross shot which completely deceived the Barnet goal-keeper.
On resuming Hampstead pressed heavily and at the end of a quarter-of-an-hour Shearcroft netted a second goal from a centre by Rowe. At this stage it could be seen that Hampstead were by far the superior team, and after further pressing they scored again, Neil netting a fine corner kick by Reinke. By now Barnet were all on the defensive and Hampstead scored again through Reinke, who intercepted a neat pass from Neil. Five minutes from the end Reinke was away on the right again and looked like scoring, but the Barnet goalkeeper made a fine clearance at the expense of a corner.
Barring the first fifteen minutes of the game, it can be said that S.R. Smith, the Hampstead goal-keeper, had quite a holiday. During the second half he was only called upon to save three shots. On the whole the Hampstead team played well, notably Bucci and Shorland at back, Moody at half, and Shearcroft and Rowe at forward. S.R. Smith, in goal, was splendid and was on many occasions cheered for his good display.
In the next round Hampstead meet Enfield at Claremont-road, the winners of this tie meeting Southall in the final.
