Hampstead visited Windsor [and Eton] on Saturday, when they gained two much-needed points in the Athenian League by three goals to one. The ground was in a deplorable condition, but the game was well worth watching.
Hampstead opened strongly, and Taylor, the Windsor goal-keeper, had some difficult shots to deal with, one from Smy being punched over the bar. Windsor, however, got the first goal. Owens, instead of letting the ball go out of play, headed it to the foot of Float, who shot through a number of players. Hampstead returned to the attack, and after an offside-goal had been obtained by Neil, a legitimate one was scored by the same player from a pass by Shearcroft. The interval score was 1-1.
Ten minutes from the restart Neil scored another fine goal, this being quickly followed by one through Smy. This was all the scoring. Smith made some fine saves, and was temporarily injured making one of his best saves. Wardlaw also got injured, and took up a position at outside-left.
Shorland, Young, Shearcroft, Reinke, Smy and Neil were the pick of a good all-round team.
