Golders Green won both games with Wealdstone last Christmas, but have not fared so well this year, despite the fact that Wealdstone, prior to the holidays, had obtained but four points from nine League games.

However, Wealdstone's display on Christmas Day showed that they occupied a false position in the table. Their win by 6 goals to 4 was fully merited. They adapted themselves to the heavy ground far better than Golders Green, who, except in a few instances, showed an incapacity to lift the ball, and played into the hands of their opponents much too frequently.

Starting two short, Wealdstone soon found themselves a goal down, T. Evans heading into the net from a pass by Hodge, who was filling Breagan's place at outside-right. With the full team in the field, Wealdstone showed to considerable advantage, Rasor, at outside-right, sending in a good shot, while Wilson and Potts, on the left wing, were a formidable pair. It was against the run of the play when Skeels, who was making his first appearance in a League game for Golders Green, headed through from Drinkwater's centre.

Wealdstone, though playing good football, were unable to score until half-an-hour had elapsed. Then Rasor, following a corner kick, reduced the lead with a header, and there quickly came two more goals, one by Potts with one of the finest shots of the match, and the other by Beach, who was an effective inside-right.

Being now one behind, Golders Green put a little more vim into their play, Drinkwater doing some capital work. Hodge gave a good opening to Skeels, who, however, disappointed by not making use of his chance, but just before the half-time whistle Hodge provided Evans with his chance to make the score three all..

Golders Green hardly deserved to be on level terms, and unfortunately their play deteriorated in the second half, during which Wealdstone scored three more goals through Potts (2) and Beach. While Godding saved well on many occasions, he was at fault in not clearing the shot which brought Wealdstone their fourth goal, as he had covered the ball. Other defenders were to blame when Potts got the fifth.

When Skeels converted another pass by Drinkwater there was just a possible chance that Golders Green might at least bring back one point, but for the remainder of the game the supporters of the visiting side saw little to encourage them, and when Beach scored the last goal, turning round completely to shoot, all hope vanished.

Wealdstone well deserved their victory, there being no department in which they were inferior. Their goalkeeper, Miles, had far less to do than Godding. They were well served in defence, Shorland, an old Golders Green player, showing he is by no means a spent force, but it was in forward work that they were particularly conspicuous.
