For the first of their two holiday games with Wealdstone, Golders Green made changes from the side which lost at Romford on Saturday. Broadis and Bloxham resumed in their usual positions, while Bucci was rested, and T.E. Evans continued in his place at left-half.
It was soon evident that this team was stronger and by the end of the game we had seen one of the best team displays this season. F. Boston, at outside-left, had a field day, and besides scoring three goals was responsible for at least two of the others.
Wealdstone opened strongly with the slope in their favour, and in the first minute nearly scored when Pickford sent in a hard drive which Kimber punched away for a corner, which proved fruitless. Wealdstone pressed heavily and tried to take the lead, but after 10 minutes play, from a pass by Browne, Boston beat Allin for the ball and running in scored for Golders Green with a hard left-foot drive.
Wealdstone continued to have the best of the play, Golders Green playing too close football for the condition of the ground and after 20 minutes Wealdstone equalised through Nurton, whose shot went just under the bar, deceiving Kimber, who must have thought the ball was going over.
Golders Green were playing too much to the right wing, where they met a resolute defence in Parker and Wheatley. Wealdstone took the lead after heavy pressure through Pickford, who headed through a centre by Pullen. This success encouraged Wealdstone, and the Golders Green defence had a trying time for the next 10 minutes, but both [W.] Boston and George cleared well, and with five minutes to go F. Boston picked up a pass from Fallon and running up to the goal-line scored with a cross-shot which went in just inside the post. From the kick-off Golders Green nearly increased the lead [? took the lead ?] when Boston centred and Breagan headed over when well placed.
The second half opened sensationally, for within four minutes Golders Green, who were kicking down the slope, had taken the lead when F. Boston headed through a centre by Breagan to complete his hat trick. The next 15 minutes saw Wealdstone demoralised by the quick passing of the Golders Green forwards, and after 20 minutes play Golders Green had made the score 6-2 with further goals by Fallon, Browne and Breagan. Not dismayed, Wealdstone fought back, and Pickford and Nurton went close with good shots. Walker was well through, but was tripped just outside the area, and from the resultant free kick George shot over. With three minutes left for play, Broadis, who was hard pressed by Pickford, attempted to pass back to Kimber, but he only partially kicked the ball, and Pickford running in scored, giving Kimber no chance.
Both defences played well and but for the hectic 20 minutes in the second half when Golders Green scored four goals, the "Stones" were the equal of Golders Green.
For Wealdstone, Scott and Barrett played a sterling game, while Pickford was a dangerous leader. F. Boston was the pick of the Golders Green team, whilst all the forwards played well. Broadis and Evans were good in defence, and W. Boston was the better of the backs.
