Golders Green gave a somewhat disjointed display against Southall in their return Herts and Middlesex League game last Saturday at Claremont Road. True, they were without Bossoms, Griffiths and Stroud, but the re-appearance of Finch in no way weakened the outside right position. Bustard deputised well for Bossoms, and Bucci sportingly made way for Goodchild, home on short leave.
The Green started in fine style and consistently outplayed the visitors, who included two ex-Golders Green players, Snazel and Breagan. The Green during this period should have had several goals, but weak forward play near the goal and a little bad luck, gave Southall a charmed life.
After the interval, which came with a blank score sheet, the Green attacked strongly; Saunders saved well from Fair, and a good centre by Finch led to a scramble in front of Southall's goal, but the Green could still not score.
Gradually the visitors got on top and the Green became slower on the ball. Ten minutes from the end Snazel gave Southall the lead with a good ground shot. Then three minutes from time, following a corner to Southall, Breagan scored a second goal with a fine shot.
