What a fine performance our boys put up last week in trouncing Carshalton by four goals to nil in the Amateur Cup.
Playing with calm assurance the result was never in doubt and Bill Fisher's experiment of playing John Evans at inside right and 23-year-old Peter Howard on the left wing was a complete success. John crowned a fine afternoon's work by running on to a cross from Peter to score the fourth goal.
This was undoubtedly the goal of the match, the move originating from John Swannell with a throw to Micky Cooper followed by a beautifully placed long ball down the left win for Peter Howard to complete the move with a splendid cross over to the far post.
This 23-year-old Birkenhead lad certainly surprised the critics by the intelligence of his play, helping out in defence and making good use of the ball when in possession. He certainly possesses the right temperament and fully justified his selection.
Laurie Churchill opened the scoring after fine play down the left wing by David Swain and the perstence of the centre forward enable him to score the second for us to cross over with a two goals to nil lead.
David Swain added his second goal after the interval and John Evans completed the scoring.
