Match Report

Although Bromley maintained their unbeaten Athenian League record, scoring their eleventh successive win, they were certainly favoured by good fortune at Child's Hill on Saturday, for Hampstead [Town] played well enough throughout to at least deserve a share of the points. Whereas, however, Bromley scored from each of the three good chances that came their way, Hampstead narrowly missed on many occasions, G.F. Howell, their smart left-winger, experiencing particularly bad luck with two spplendid headers in quick succession. He, together with G. Amos, S. Briscoe, and F. Young, proved the most satisfactory on the Hampstead side.

Bromley were good both in defence and attack, but relied too much on robust methods, which did not appeal to the spectators, and they were two up at the interval, A. Morris scoring the first and L. Thomas the second. Hampstead strove hard on resuming, and for quite a long period they penned the visitors in their own half, but could not score, and following some good team work, Bromley got a third, through Morris, who was one of the best forwards on the field.

There is no slackening of interest in the games at Child's Hill, and a big crowd expressed their satisfaction with the efforts of the home side to stem the tide. With W.G. Brooker playing for Middlesex County at Kings Lynn, where his side won 4-1, Gordon Amos was given the right back position, and played well. The introduction of F. Young at inside right also effected an improvement, and with other slight changes in the forward line there is promise of a speedy return to winning form.

Tomorrow Hampstead visit Windsor and Eton in the return Athenian League match, and hope to wipe out their previous defeat by this club.
