Match Report

Hampstead Town wound up the first half of the season in good style by visiting and defeating Summerstown in the Athenian League by one goal to none. Hampstead owe their victory mainly to McCracken's brilliant work in goal, coupled with fine defensive work by W. Harry, who has deservedly won popularity with his club fellows and the crowd. McCracken appears to have regained all his old-time confidence, and in this match nothing couuld beat him, and in the early stages of the game he cleverly saved at least two apparently certain scoring shots.

The winning goal was smartly headed five minutes after the start by G.F. Howell from an accurately placed corner kick from Travers Day, who is now settling down in good style at outside-right. In the second half especially Hampstead always had the measure of their opponents, and here W. Harry was seen at his best, his first time fearless tackling and sure kicking being warmly applauded.

In the temporary and unavoidable absence of W.T. Field the right back position in this match was taken by F. Iles, who has been playing in the reserves, and he gave a very creditable performance.
