Hampstead Town's goalless draw with Windsor & Eton in the Athenian League was due primarily to the splendid play of the visiting goalkeeper (E. Goodwin), who, with a fine reach, repelled all efforts to get the ball past him. The tricky nature of the ground, too, prevented the inside forwards from gathering to best advantage the splendid centres that came across the goal from Travers Day and G.F. Howell, both of whom were well in the picture.
This game proved conclusively that Hampstead have a particularly fine pair of backs in W.T. Field and W. Harry, the former playing in polished style, and the latter bringing off many fine clearances against speedy players. In the half-back line Lewis Smith and R. Wardlaw did well.
On the run of the play Hampstead should have won and their partial failure caused disappointment.
