What wonderful fare both teams served to us on Christmas morning, when we followed up our five goal defeat of Oxford the previous week with a 5-2 hammering of Wealdstone in heavy conditions.
The teams played thrilling football, one feature being the tremendous form of Brian Goymer in the Wealdstone goal.
Opening in wonderful style, we might have been three goals up, instead the visitors raced away to take the lead. We equalised, only for Wealdstone to again go ahead.
Another equaliser, then a penalty ace from David Hyde put us in front. A missed penalty by Hugh Lindsay and two goals by our centre-half Geoff Riddy, illustrate the cut and thrust of the game.
Laurie Churchill and Jimmy Quail were the other scorers in a game which demonstrated the skill and staying power of our boys.
Welcome to Dave Bassett, who made his debut for us in this game and showed sufficient touches of skill to prove he will be an asset in more favourable conditions.
