Unfortunate in being unble to fix up one of their remaining League matches for Saturday, a friendly match with Tufnell Park was arranged by the Golders Green club, and although no points were at issue, the match was very stoutly contested. There was no end-of-the-season flavour about it.
The score was two all, and there was as much anxiety to score a winning goal as if the League championship or the County Cup final was at stake.
The elevens were fairly strong for a friendly. Golders Green were without J. Bloxham, J. Browne and M. Fallon for various reasons, but the club was not badly served by the substitutes, L. R. Ward at right-half, D.J. Russell at centre-forward, and H. O'Connor at inside-right. Indeed, one may reasonably look forward to Russell proving the man Golders Green are looking for as leader of the attack. O'Connor also did well, particularly in the first half, and Breagan, his partner, had to thank him for many well judged passes.
Tufnell Park took the lead through Bird at the end of 25 minutes, but Evans was not long in equalising, and before the interval Evans gave Golders Green the lead, which, on the run of the play, they well deserved.
Golders Green did not show to such good advantage in the second half. The only goal was scored by Drew, the Park's outside-right, a player whose methods and mannerisms caused a good deal of interest. W.J. Scott, the visitors' centre-half, was off the field for some time, but Golders Green could not take advantage of this disability. Drinkwater put across many centres, and on the other wing Breagan provided opportunities, but Murden could not be beaten again.
