Match Report

An interesting and enjoyable game resulted from the meeting last Saturday at the Avenue Ground, Child's Hill, of Hampstead Town and Handley Page football club, the present leaders of the Middlesex League. Keen local interest attracted a huge crowd of enthusiasts, and although Hampstead Town won comfortably by 3 goals to 1, their opponents gave a sparkling exhibition of football, played throughout in the best spirit, and they were all triers to the final whistle. F.A. YUates beat Ballard somewhat luckily, and the Town eventually held a three goals' lead, G.F. Blackburn and J.P. Croal being the other successful marksmen. Handley Page were unfortunate not to score on several occasions, and in the concluding stages A. Chandler notched a well-deserved goal for them. W. Francis, a new recruit for the Town, again proved his value at centre half, and for the losers T.W. Ballard in goal, G. Hughes at right back, A. Chandler and L. Mason (forwards) were always prominent.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Hampstead Town have a stiff task at the home enclosure, being opposed by the full South-Eastern League team of Watford Football Club. Previous games with professional opponenta at the Avenue Ground have all proved vedry interesting and exciting, and this encounter should prove no exception. Hampstead will field the following eleven:- H.J. Dale; S. Dunstone, H.H. Allwright; J.H. Parker, W. Francis, h. Woodward; A.E. Mallett, F.A. Yates, G.F. Blackburn, F.L. Burrage, J.P. Croal.
