The visit of Ilford on Saturday in the London League put and end to the Town's long run of successes, the visitors wining by three goals to two.
Ilford, catching the defence napping, were soon a goal up, and a bad mistake by the Town's backs a few minutes later resulted in a further goal. These reverses put Hampstead on their mettle, and G Garlick soon reduced the lead with a grand shot.
Just before the interval the Town were awarded a penalty, but A Humphreys shot over the bar.
Early in the second half, the Town were again unfortunate when Matthews in clearing kicked the ball on to one of his own men whence it rebounded into the net.
A Humphreys soon after added to the Town's score, and during the last twenty minutes of the game Hampstead were attacking continuously, but their opponents put up a fine defence, particularly Evans in goal.
