Luton Albion visited the Avenue ground on Saturday in the F.A. Amateur Cup competition and were victorious by four goals to two. The visitors, who were semi-finalists in the Bedfordshire Senior Cup last season, displayed fine knowledge of the game, and their long passing from wing to wing quite upset Hampstead's methods. For the first twenty minutes the Town were masters of the situation and did everything but score, the forwards being extremely weak in front of goal. Luton broke away and scored somewhat luckily; five minutes later Sumner equalised for the Town with a splendid header. Immediately after Hampstead should have taken the lead from a penalty, but Tomkins failed with his shot. In the second half Luton had more of the game, and scored on three occasions; while the Town could only put on another goal through Evans, who, after a capital run put in a hard shot at close range, the ball going through the custodian's hands. Some excellent attempts were made by the Town forwards to equalise, Neale particularly putting in a brilliant shot at close quarters, which Farmer, the Luton goalkeeper, cleverly saved. S. Ward, the Luton left back, also gave an exceptionally smart performance, his kicking throughout the game being faultless. A large and enthusiastic crowd witnessed the match, and were enlivened before the game and during the interval with excellent selections by the Child's Hill Silver Prize Band, who will attend all the principal matches at the Avenue ground throughout the season, and it is hoped that this feature will excite further local interest.
