Match Report

Over 800 people paid admission to the Avenue Ground, Cricklewood, to see the replayed F.A. Cup tie between Hampstead Town and Yiewsley.

The visitors were hardly so strong forward as in the previous match, and this is where they failed. Hampstead were much the smarter side, their attack being much more effective. A.W. Humphreys distributed the ball judiciously, and it was due to his brainy play that the three goals were scored.

The first occurred after ten minutes had elapsed, a centre by Rayner from the extreme right being neatly headed through by O. Warren. This player scored again some twenty minutes later, from a cross by Poltock and at half-time Hampstead were leading 2-0.

The concluding stages were marked by much clever midfield play by both teams, but the home side always appeared to have a bit in hand and eventually a low shot by Humphreys, close in, gave them their third and last goal.

Compared with last week Hampstead's team presented few weak spots. A. H. Parker, at right-half, is deserving of special mention and for such a veteran - years ago he played for West Hampstead - he showed remarkable staying powers. Both goalkeepers were at their best, and in WInyard, Hampstead appear to have secured a capable custodian. He was discovered while playing for a local junior side called the Talbot.
