Hampstead [Town] strengthened their position in the Athenian League by defeating Wimbledon last Saturday at the Avenue Ground, Child's Hill, by 3 goals to 2 in an interesting and very even game.
They held a commanding lead at the interval of two clear goals, scored b y G.F. Blackburn and W. Little. Wimbledon, who had not the best of luck in the first period, continued to make strenuous efforts, and were rewarded by goals registered in quick succession by W.R. Keeble and P.G. Gorke. Full points were secured by Hampstead, however, by an excellent effort on the part of J.P. Croal in the concluding stages. The teams were extremely well matched and the advantage of home ground appeared to be the deciding factor in Hampstead's favour.
The Town have a very strenuous Christmas programme to fulfil, Athenian League matches being played on successive days. On Christmas moring Southall will be visited, and arrangements have been made for a large number of Hampstead supporters to accompany the team.
On Boxing Day at 11.30 at the Avenue Ground, Southall play the return fixture, and on Saturday afternoon at 2.30, Cheshunt F.C. will be entertained.
