Match Report

Hampstead Town, fielding a weak eleven, including four reserves, as a result of the recent injuries sustained by their players, were pegged back in their effort for the Athenian League championship by Luton Clarence, who deservedly won on their own ground by three goals to one, Riddell (2) and Savage scoring for Luton, and Smith for Hampstead. Notable absentees from the Hampstead side were C. Wise, F.L. Burrage, G.H.Perry, and P.E. Bruty. The latter, who is still in hospital and was operated on last week-end, is going on as well as can be expected in the circumstances.

[Editor's note : Hampstead's scorer is thought, but not known, to be C.A. Smith, as he was with the club at the time. Lewis Smith did not join the club until part way through the following season.]

On the home ground Hampstead's London League eleven drew with Catford Southend 1-1. Grierson, who scored for Hampstead, had previously missed with a penalty kick. Two new players in the Hampstead side - C. Mold in goal, and T.B. Bunce at outside right - both did exceedingly well.

Tomorrow (Saturday) West Ham United Reserves, now at the head of the London Combination, provide an attractive friendly encounter at the Avenue ground, Child's Hill. Kick off 3.30.

Hampstead have arranged a fine holiday programme on the home ground, including a visit from the famous Northern Nomads F.C. on Easter Saturday afternoon; Sterling Athletic in the London League on Easter Monday morning, and Chelmsford in the Athenian League in the afternoon.
