Match Report

From the Hendon & Finchley Times, 18 February 1921 :

Hampstead Town in their last five League matches have been undefeated, and have secured nine points out of a possible ten. Following their recent improved displays they consistently beat Southall last Saturday in an Athenian League game at the Child's Hill enclosure by three goals to none.

Southall started with the advantage of a strong wind, but they failed to score, although several splendid chances came their way. Five minutes from the kick off Hampstead took the lead with a neat goal by H.S. White, and in the second half a long series of attacks yielded a couple of goals through the agency of F.L. Burrage.

This victory places them third in the League table, and a win tomorrow (Saturday) over Kingstonians will put them at the head of the competition with an excellent chance of winning the trophy. This match will be played at Richmond-road, Kingston, and arrangements are being made for a large number of local supporters to accompany the team in char-a-bancs.

From the West Middlesex Gazette, 18 February 1921 :

At Cricklewood last Saturday after a pleasant game, Hampstead Town proved victors over Southall by 3-0. Southall did not deserve to be one down at the interval, as they had most of the play in this half, and how Ives and Yates failed to score from a few yards out remains a mystery. Maybe they were too anxious to score and lost their chance. Stoppages for injuries to Tucker, Payne, and Yates did not improve matters, the latter pluckily continuing after a nasty kick in the face. Wenham and Harry were continually in the limelight with some grand defensive work, and the former player was the only half who fed and nursed his forwards. Ives, at inside-left, was always giving Robertson some clever passes, but all too no purpose, as the outside-left was completely off colour. The interval saw Southall behind 1-0, although it is only fair to say that if the locals had taken their chances they should have been at least two up at half-time. Resuming, the Town attacked at once, and Holding was given plenty of opportunity to distinguish himself, which he did in brilliant style, saving at times in marvellous fashion. He was ably backed up by Harry, Walker, and Wenham, who defended stoutly. The Town scored twice in the second half, running out winners by 3-0. Burrage (2) and White were the goal scorers.
