Hampstead [Town] were in good fettle for their encounter with Metrogas, who are striving for Athenian League championship honours, and deservedly won a hard and gruelling game by the only goal scored. Fortune was equally fickle for both sides, Metrogas suffering in the early stages when some of their efforts deserved to score, although C.B. Evans saved brilliantly on several occasions. Hampstead, however, played well against the wind, and forty minutes from the start, after a bombardment of the Metrogas goal, Lewis Smith, at centre-half, secured from a clearance and scored with a splendid shot well out of reach of the goalkeeper. Metrogas made strenuous efforts to get on terms, but found W.G. Brooker in his best form, and his new partner, W.F. Mays, also played a safe game, with really fine headwork. This player is improving week by week. Although both goals had narrow escapes in the concluding stages, no further score accrued.
Lewis Smith put up one of his best displays for Hampstead at centre-half, and S.P. Briscoe, in the unaccustomed position of right-half, W.E. Brewer, Travers Day and H.S. White, were always prominent.
