Match Report

Hampstead [Town] scored a fine treble event over the holidays, winning both their Athenian League games with Barnet and Luton Clarence, and also their London Senior Cup tie with Kingstonians, the latter before a record holiday crowd. In these three games over 10,000 people visited the Avenue ground, and every match proved a stern and interesting encounter.

Their League successes place them third on the table, with two games in hand over the leaders, Metrogas. Hampstead have lost only three games this season so far, and have won their last four League matches with only one goal scored against them. In their Amateur Cup matches they have scored sixteen goals to five against, and in the London Senior Cup sixteen goals to none against, and it is proving a record season in all respects for the club.

Kingstonians, who came to Child's Hill fully expecting to win, having rested their important players although having a League engagement the previous day, found the Hampstead defence too sound, and their forwards too smart, R. Kirby and S.J. Howard getting the winning goals.

Hampstead were fortunate in negotiating this stiff programme without injuries, and only had to call upon two reserves in the three games. One of these reserves - Lewis Smith - is a very promising youngster at centre-half, from whom big things may be expected. His display gave immense satisfaction, and he is gradually earning himself a regular position in the first eleven.

Next Monday Hampstead travel to Cardiff to meet the famous Cardiff Corinthians in the Amateur Cup. This date is a public holiday in Wales, and Cardiff City F.C. have placed their fine enclosure at Ninian Park, where they take the second biggest gates in First Division football, at the disposal of the two clubs for the encounter. Cardiff Corinthians have a fine team, including three Welsh amateur internationals, but Hampstead have confidence in their ability to rise to the occasion. For this match they will field their consistently successful eleven: - C.B. Evans; W. Brooker, S. Dunstone; W.E. Brewer, A.W. Thwaites, L.G. Vance; S. Briscoe, S.J. Howard, R. Kirby, C. Wise, H.S. White.
