Hampstead [Town] and Civil Service both being without a competitive game, a friendly encpounter was arranged for the home ground at Child's Hill, and a big crowd witnessed a splendidly contested match. Hampstead were at a slight disadvantage, having had little time to rest after the great game with Tufnell Park on Thursday evening in the London Challenge Cup, which they won by three goals to two; nevertheless they made a splendid show, and took the lead after thirty minutes' play, C. Wise scoring from a clever movement initiated by S. Briscoe. A. Perry equalised for the Service before the interval.
Both goalkeepers were well tested on resuming, and after C.B. Evans had made one or two good saves, he was eventually beaten by a beautiful header from O.L.H. Levey, the Services' renowned inside-right. Hampstead made strenuous efforts to effect a draw, and were distinctly unfortunate with two first-class, though fruitless, efforts from C. Wise and A.L. Baker, F.J. Hayns saving his charge in great style.
The game was well managed by Mr. C. Reach, who in variousgames on the Hampstead ground this season has proved himself to be a first-class referee.
