Match Report

In the best game on the ground this season and before their biggest crowd so far, Hampstead '[Town] pegged back Summerstown, one of the Athenian League leaders, by two goals to one.

Changes in the Hampstead side effected a marked improvement, and supporters were pleased to see L.G. Vance resume his accustomed position at left-half. J. Brooks, a new right-back, also made a most favourable impression with his big kicking and tackling, and he should prove a great asset to his side. The visitors, with an unbeaten record to uphold, commenced at a great pace but Hampstead responded well, and great enthusiasm was aroused when within ten minutes of the start S. Briscoe got through and centred for G.F. Howell, who was well placed, to score a perfect goal. Almost immediately after Travers Day, with rare dash, beat the opposing defence and scored Hampstead's second. Great efforts by the visitors to get on terms before the interval were nullified by fine defensive work, but immediately after resuming H. Cobb scored for them, whilst Hampstead foolishly suspended operations for a fruitless offside appeal. The brilliance of the visiting goalkeeper, A.P. Roberts, and good work by their defence generally saved Summerstown from a heavier defeat.

For Hampstead G.F. Howell and C. Wise, with L.G. Vance behind them, did a wonderful lot of work on the left wing in fine style. S. Briscoe played well but received poor support from his partner, and Lewis Smith, W.E. Brewer, and W.G. Brooker all gave of their best.
