Match Report

Hampstead [Town], although not at full strength, gained an easy victory over Old Lyonians in the Middlesex County Cup by five goals to one. The Visitors' defence, though good, could not withstand the strong Hampstead attack, and the five goals were shared by F.G. Young (3) and Travers Day (2).

The unavoidable absence of Lewis Smith at centre-half necessitated a re-arrangement of the Hampstead team, but E.N.C. Cantrell proved an excellent deputy, and appears to have thoroughly recovered from his recent injury. A. Barnard, another reserve team player, who was brought in to fill the outside right position, played exceedingly well, and the only response from the visitors was a goal shortly after the interval, which came from a penalty kick awarded through J. Humphries handling.

Following the somewhat poor results of the first half of the season, Hampstead's great objective now is the winning of their County Cup, which would mark a new achievement in their history. They have to visit S.T.D. in the next round, and a win wouuld carry them to the semi-final.
