From the Hendon & Finchley Times, 20 April 1928, page 9 :
Claiming the only goal of the game, Hampstead defeated Southall in the Athenian League last night at Claremont-road.
Hampstead pressed at the opening, but hesitation on the part of Reinke lost them an opening in the centre. Shearcroft tested the Southall goal-keeper early in the game. Smith, in the Hampstead goal, was several times called upon and saved some smart shots which the strong wind made particularly dangerous. He did well to keep his goal intact during the first half. As the result of good combination on the right, Neil came near to giving Hampstead the lead, but the ball was cleared when the goal was open. With a few minutes to go Levy broke away and delivered to Smy, who worked hard for an opening and tapped in to Neil with nice judgment, Neil giving Hampstead the lead with a sensational goal. Southall responded with a strenuous attack and Smith stopped four hot shots in as many minutes.
After the change of ends Hampstead did not make the most of their advantage with the wind and their goal was frequently in danger, but Smith remained sound, and Owens did [remainder of report illegible.]

From the West Middlesex Gazette, 21 April 1928 :
In their match with Hampstead at Cricklewood on Thursday evening, Southall, who lost 1-0, had three changes, Goodwin, Moncur and Adey playing in place of Webb, Clark and Delanty. The play was tame and uninteresting, neither side showing to advantage. Southall had the better of the play, but the forwards lacked thrust, though Adey and Yates were unfortunate with shots that struck the woodwork. Smy scored the only goal for Hampstead after 30 minutes' play.
