Hampstead did not deserve to lose by the large margin of four goals to one in the final of the Middlesex Senior Cup with Hayes at Wealdstone on Easter Monday. Probably a fairer reflex of the game would have been a score of 2-1 in favour of the West Middlesex men. Hayes were evidently more at home in the wet and muddy conditions, and on the day's showing were speedier than Hampstead. Owing to the heavy rain there was a good deal of mud in the centre of the field.

In spite of the inclement weather conditions a crowd of over 4,000 people watched a hard but never exciting struggle. Hayes were without R.C Brown at inside-left, his place being taken by T.D. Welsh (centre-forward). J. Morgan was brought in to fill the inside position. Their loss was not so great as Hampstead's during the last twenty minutes of the game, however. It was just when Hampstead were needing their forwards most, for goalscoring purposes, about twenty minutes before the welcome final whistle blew, that A.G. Potter was badly hurt and was carried off the field. Throughout the game there was far too much offside play by both teams.

After 25 minutes Morgan scored for Hayes from a pass by Knight. It was a shot from close range and gave Smith no chance. Smith, a liitle later, conceded a corner, and from the resultant kick Lloyd scored Hayes's second and final goal before the interval.

Both teams slipped about a good deal on the muddy field and in consequence many chances were lost, particularly by Hampstead. Morton was given plenty of work to do and he did quite well. Walsh played a good game, but his dribbling was ineffective. He and Morton started a very promising movement in the second half, but Gower managed to clear his lines. Potter, who was one of the most prominent of the forwards until he met his injury, nearly had a goal in the first half, the ball going over the posts. Up to half-time Hayes were hardly worth their two-goals lead.

Hampstead started the second half more confidently, but both sides could do little of moment with the ball, it was so heavy. Morgan got his second and his team's third goal ten minutes after the resumption. Bucci was prominent with some good defensive work; indeed, he worked tremendously hard throughout the match. A score looked possible for Hampstead when Morton centred from a favourable position, but Lloyd saved at the expense of a corner. No goal resulted. A few minutes later Rowe scored for Hayes. It was after Potter had left the field that Morton scored Hampstead's only goal.
