For their League fixture at Uxbridge on Wednesday evening Golders Green were well represented, all the regular members turning out with the exception of G. Bucci, though he was present on the ground.
T. Evans took his place at left-half and Duffield took over the centre-forward position.
Kimber, in goal, carried out his duties in his usual skilled manner. W. Boston, at right-back, had a good match, but C.V. George had some difficulty and took some time to obtain the measure of Trevor Jones, the opposing outside-right. Broadis, who captained the side in the absence of Bucci, gave a sterling display at centre-half. This was just as well, for a number of players showed signs of that carefree end-of-the-season football.
F. Boston, at outside-left, in addition to scoring the only goal, gave one of his best displays of the season.
Duffield tried hard at centre-forward, but he played a lone hand. Not once throughout the game did the inside forwards give him a good through pass and if he required the ball he had to forage for himself.
Breagan, at outside-right, had a poor match against his old club-mate, J. Richardson.
Following several raids on the left, T. Evans put F. Boston away with a clever pass inside the opposing backs and Boston responded by giving Golders Green the lead with a great shot which left the Uxbridge goalkeeper helpless.
Uxbridge then took up the attack on the right and Trevor Jones beat C.V. George for the ball, but when well placed he shot wide.
Golders Green, although playing clever mid-field football, were weak in front of goal, and this was undoubtedly caused through their inside forwards persisting in lying too far back when an attack by Golders Green was initiated.
Following half-time, Golders Green should have gone further ahead on two occasions from well-placed centres by F. Boston, but both chances were badly missed.
Towards the close of the game Uxbridge made a determined effort to equalise, but without success although three minutes from time they might have scored when the outside-left failed badly with an easy opening.
