Match Report

Golders Green's third cup final of the season, played at Wembley Stadium on May 16, yielded them a much coveted success when they wrested the Middlesex County Senior Red Cross Cup from Tufnell Park, the holders.

Before the match the teams were presented to Lord Wigram, Chairman of the Red Cross Sports Fund.

Golders Green gained the lead after 15 minutes, when Griffiths, receiving from Stroud, gave a pass to Cochrane, who crashed home a fine goal. Thereafter, though Tufnell Park pressed hard, the issue was seldom in doubt.

Five minutes later, Griffiths put Cochrane in possession, and from his pass Bucci scored the second goal.

Three minutes after half-time Robshaw put Stroud away, and from his centre Bucci headed home the Grreen's third. Tufnell Park began to get the upper hand, and after half-an-hour Richards, receiving from the left, scored a great goal. At this stage it looked as if Tufnell Park might score a second, and then anything could have happened. They were kept at bay by a dour, solid defence, and five minutes from the end, a fine move by Griffiths, who played a most unselfish game, put Cochrane through to score the fourth.

For Golders Green, Halton and Cochrane were oustanding, while on the Park side, Lynch and Richards took the eye. The Park were without their stalwart centre-half, Thompson, who sustained a bad injury the previous week, but H. Brophy played exceedingly well.
