Match Report

Golders Green played splendidly in the first half of the semi-final of the Middlesex Senior Cup at Claremont Road last Saturday, and established a 3-0 lead by the interval. It was not easy, for Uxbridge proved a fast moving, dangerous and opportunist side. It was therefore unwise of the Green to ease up in the second half, When the forwards made the mistake of keeping the ball too close. Fortunately the home half backs, Topp, Malcolm and Gallacher, dominated the play throughout, and kept the speedy Uxbridge attack in check. Gallacher, in addition to his own work, had on a number of occasions to cover Bossoms, who tended to leave his winger unmarked and to dribble when a ong clearance was called for. The Green's front line was very lively, though Cox appeared to find the pace somewhat hot.

After 17 minutes, following a throw in, Stroud, who except for one or two lapses played a splendid game, centred well and Robshaw opened the score with a fine shot. The Green now pressed heavily : Cochrane shot over the bar : Cooper just beat Fair to the ball : and the centre forward headed just wide a few moments later.

Half an hour had elapsed when Stroud got through beautifully and centred low for Fair to convert and put the home side two up. Five minutes later Stroud again got through and passed in to Robshaw, who scored the Green's third with a magnificent cross drive - the best goal of the match.

Twenty minutes of the second half passed before there was any scoring : then Gallacher passed forward to Cox, who got the ball out of Cooper's reach and trickled it forward for Cochrane to dash in and score the Green's fourth.

After 25 minutes, following a free kick to Uxbridge, Bossom's header to clear went in the wrong direction : Stewart fastened on to the balland scored with a good first-timer.

Towards the close, the Green began to re-assert themselves, and thanks to the supremacy of their half-back line, ran out comfortable winners.

Southall are the other finalists and the match is due to be played on Easter Monday, but the venue is not yet decided.
