PREAMBLE

During Christmas week, Golders Green Football Club were handicapped by a series of misfortunes, which largely contributed to their defeat in all three games played.

Pat Lynch and Alf Williams were out of action, Fred Williams was away on holiday; injuries robbed the side of Fair and Brown for Boxing Day, while in this second game against Wealdstone, Gallacher was carried off unconscious and should not have resumed, as he did, after half time, while A. King was the victim of a foul which made him limp after returning to the field.

Wealdstone, on the other hand, were reinforced by the appearance on leave of three of their pre-war players.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Early rain turned the Lower Mead pitch into a quagmire. Adapting their play to the conditions and kicking down the slope, Wealdstone used first-class tactics and had the defence guessing. The game was really won, and all the goals were scored, in the first 20 minutes.

Gaze got the first goal in five minutes, headed the second in ten minutes from a corner kick by Moore, and notched the third five minutes later. Garrigan got the fourth in the 20th minute. Though the Green rallied and prevented further disaster, they lost their chance after the change of ends by keeping the ball too close.

[ The Harrow Observer credited H Dyke with the third goal. ]
