Match Report

This was more like the old Hendon with the whole team playing with much more purpose than has been witnessed in recent games.

Certainly the form in the second half was the most convincing and the score might have been doubled had the lads not been content to sit back after establishing a three goal lead.

With the wind in their favour our lads started off in fine style but it was the home side who appeared more dangerous causing John Swannell many anxious moments, particularly in dealing with fine efforts from J Butterfield and right half W Belger.

We might have gone ahead after 20 minutes, Fred Pudney just failing to fasten on to a clever flick from Roy Drake, and Laurie Churchill being rather hesitant in his use of the ball.

However it was the right winger who put us in front just before the interval running on to a neat pass from Roy Drake to beat the left back and calmly slip the ball past the advancing goalie.

Our second goal four minutes after the restart was a similar effort, this time Fred Pudney gathering a beautiful through ball from Jimmy Quail to drive home.

Hendon were well on top and it was no surprise when John Evans scored the best goal of the match running on to a return pass from Churchill to crash the ball past Fowler, the former Wealdstone goalie.

After this we were content to stroll through the game, even so the nearest St Albans got to scoring was when Dave Hogwood cleared off the line from a header from the St Albans centre forward.
